授業概要 | This course is for anyone interested in English grammar, but especially for people who are intending to become English teachers. We will explore what grammar is and what it is used for and you will do exercises to try to push your understanding of grammar at a CEFR B1 level. If you are hoping to become an English teacher, we will also think about how grammar can be learned and how it might best be taught. If you have ever wondered which sentence in the following pairs is correct, this course may be for you. Is there any / some rice left? The woman whom / who we met said she would telephone. I wish I were / was younger. |

到達目標(ねらい) | There are two main aims for this course: 1. to give you an opportunity to think about English grammar in new ways; 2. to give you an opportunity to work on areas of grammar you find difficult with the goal of improving your own understanding and ability to use these parts of grammar. To these ends, we will engage in discussion tasks in class to challenge some of the assumptions you may have about different areas of English grammar. We will ask why Japanese speakers often have difficulties with certain parts of English grammar and we will see if there are ways of explaining these areas so that these difficulties can be overcome. In class and for homework, you will complete exercises that are connected to the topics we discuss in class. These exercises are intended to help you improve your ability to use grammar appropriately. |
